Your thoughts define your beliefs. Your beliefs define your actions.
While you can’t be healthy by only focusing on one area of health, thinking well is where it all starts. Many people will never become healthy because they either don’t believe they can achieve it or they don’t believe they are worth the effort. Either way, if anyone, athlete or everyday Joe, wants to be healthy they have to cultivate the mindset. We all have a hierarchy of values that we process every day decisions from. An example is a devout mother, most every decision she makes throughout the day revolves the care and well-being of her children. She will let other things like coffee dates and exercise to go by the way side to take care of her kids. Your value system isn’t wrong or right, it is the lens through which you view the world. However, if that value system is not serving you being the best person possible, you need to recognize your limiting beliefs and change them.
First realize your own value. You are the only you who will ever be in existence and without reaching your potential in this life time the world is being robbed of the special gifts you have to offer to the world about you.
Identify your hierarchy of values. This takes time and sometimes a great deal of introspection. Where do you spend your time? Your money? Your energy? That is a great start.
Now what are your limiting beliefs? “I can’t stick to anything.” “All of my family has heart disease and so will I.” “I can’t lose weight.” “I’m not good enough” “It is always someone else’s fault.” Whatever it is, it will hold you back all your life unless you deal with it. Face it, confront it and then change it. If your limiting belief is “I can’t lose weight.” Write down and recite out loud several times a day, “I am a fat burning, trimming down machine. I choose the right foods to eat to lose weight. I exercise because it gives me more energy. I feel great today and I choose to be a better me. I am lean, strong and beautiful.” Yeah it is goofy and you may feel a little uncomfortable at first, but give it time and you will overcome your belief and reinstall a new more empowering and confident one! Without the right mindset you will never successfully realize and enjoy the fruits of health achieved. It is essential!
